Battery life is rubbish, and it crashes!
« on: December 15, 2007, 09:30:24 PM »
Hey,
Just wondering if anyone can help me out. The battery life of my ipod is now really bad. I have never used it with the original firmware so I dont know, but with rockbox I'd say the batter lasts about 2 hours.

As well as this, when I'm playing songs sometimes the whole thing crashes and I get this really loud screeching noise through the headphones.

I'm thinking of removing rockbox altogether and going back to the original firmware through itunes because I've heard there are ways around the restrictions itunes puts on your use of it.

But I'd prefer to continue using rockbox if only these problems could be solved!

ANy help much appreciated :)

Batteries do get worse over time and hold less charge. It may be the case that your battery is on its last legs. How old is it?

Also, how old is the build of Rockbox that you're using? Do the crashes happen on a current build?

The version I'm using is r13733-070629

My unit is a 80gb vid ipod, and it's not too old so I don't think the battery should be reduced by this much...I usually only get about 2 hours playback.

That's a very old build. Try a current build from the link on the left and see if it resolves your problems.

Also, to get even more juice out you could purchase one of those long-lasting batterys off of ebay. I got a 1200mah one for $6 including shipping and it has worked easily 30 hours perfectly.

Interesting...I had a look on ebay and I see ones for 60gb ipods but not 80gb...would it be the same for both? How easy was it to install the new battery, and does it take extra long to recharge?

Yes, they'll work for both 60 and 80GB models.
