rockbox refurbished 30 gig video ipod

i just got this for christmas, it's default setting is the 1.2.3 firmware, which is way i can't run rockbox. is there anyway i can install a earlier update, like 1.2.1, over the 1.2.3? thanks so much for your help in advance, sorry if i'm not seeing something thats right in front of my face.

Yea you can opt for older firmware but I wasn't aware that the version of firmware would allow/disallow you to install rockbox, just as long as you could "hack" the firmware. I think you can use iTunes to change the firmware or you could try iPodUpdater. Hope this helps.

I'm not aware of any restrictions with regards to the original firmware's version on such an Ipod model that makes a difference in whether you can install Rockbox or not. Where did you get that information from?

(I'm about 90% sure that there isn't, maybe someone else could confirm for the rest.)

Some of the old firmware for the 1G and 2G (original) iPods weren't recognised by ipodpatcher. I wasn't aware of anything like this for newer ipods though.

I'm pretty sure that you can just go ahead and run ipodpatcher on the 1.2.3 firmware. And besides, what's the harm in trying? I'm about 95% sure that it would work. Report back to us devolution!

The version of firmware on a 30GB iPod Video is utterly irrelevant to Rockbox - we don't care what's installed on it at all.

I wish people would stop saying this.
