Does rockbox work with Alpine connectors?
HalJordan:
I have an Alpine CDA-9856 head unit.
I also have the ipod direct connector cable with it.
If I switch to Rockbox, will I loose the ability to use my $400 stereo, or will it work no problems?
If it helps, the head unit does the song changes, but uses the iPods Artist/Album/Playlist records.
Other versions like this that I have seen just use the folders as though the iPod/(insert other mp3 player here) is just a storage device like a thumb drive.
Thanks for any help that you can provide. A no is just as good as a yes, cause that will keep me from throwing away $400 bucks.

if what im getting is right. your Head creates a serial connection with the Ipod and it controls it? (ie changes ipods songs through the Heads own interface) AND it can interface and read generic Mp3 devices through USB?
if that is the case then no. rockbox wont work with it yet. USB support is still in the works. and even then. i think ipod has some special programming to interact with your device.

well using rockbox doesnt necessarily prevent you from using your unit... if you uploaded your songs via itunes and use database in rockbox then you can just boot into ipod firmware whenever you want to use your unit. but yeah usb isnt fully supported yet, but you could try if it works since SOME accesories do work with rockbox.

Refishing a quite old thread: I have an ipod nano (i think is 2g) the silver one - 4Gb
I am really happy with rockbox, but i have one last thing to test: Tomorrow i will plug it in my alpine radio.... until now i used it with the original formware from apple...... which kinda sucks... i get a lot of errors forcing me to force reset the ipod.....
My question is: Is rockbox nowadays able to handle this kind of external hardware?
I saw this topic and i chose to revive it since the situation is pretty similar for me
Thanks!

Rockbox is able to with most accessories, but I don't think support for accessories is implemented at all on the Nano 2G.
