Manual Switch to/from USB connected mode for IRiver H320
(1/1)
dunxd:
Hi there - I've got a semi-bricked IRiver H320. I have the fairly common "always connected" USB issue when I start up the H320. The "Zall workaround" works for me (see http://www.misticriver.net/forums/h3xx-series-320-340/11314-fixed-h320-always-connected-prob.html). However, since this shorts out some USB contacts the battery life is severely limited.
However, I was wondering if there was any way Rockbox could be altered so that the automatic switch into the USB connected mode did not happen - the machine would always boot into regular playback mode. Would it then be possible to add a control to manually switch into USB connected mode in order to transfer files from a PC? Then on reboot it goes back into playback mode.
Is this sort of thing possible? If so, which files would be the relevant ones to edit?

That is an interesting point. I am largely guessing here, but seeing as we can hold a button to enter USB charging not USB disk mode when inserting USB, maybe you can reverse the order so you press a button to enter diskmode. However, it would also mean a modded bootloader, which on H1x0 or H3x0 means being very careful - a faulty bootloader means only being able to recover via a hardware connection to the unit motherboard.
I would pop or IRC during the day (European time) and try asking there for someone with greater hardware knowledge.

Has someone tried this? My H320 is also "broken" so I would love to have a solution like this!
