Need Archos 20GB MP3 Recorder V2 battery

Well I'm led back to mighty Rockbox (which I love!) because I got a new Sansa player.  Looking forward to trying it!  But it's making me miss my Archos which I can only play when plugged into the wall since it won't hold a charge.  I checked here:

but none of the sources led me to a replacement battery for my Archos.   I'm willing to take it apart if I can get a battery for it.  Can anyone help me find a source?  I'm hoping maybe another source (or compatible battery somewhere) may have popped up in the  last few years.

Try eBay.  Last time I checked there were many sources and some were quite cheap.  The Multimedia Jukebox and some other Archos devices use the same battery.  Typically sellers list all supported devices but sometimes they miss a few.  Here's one search that gives results: archos v2 battery.

It's pretty easy to access the battery.  You just need to unscrew the small "top" panel (the small face near the LCD) and bend the back out of the way a bit.  I found I only needed to clean the battery contacts.  Others reported the same issue, and I recommend trying it before ordering a battery.

I'm confused about which battery I need!  The wiki link (above) indicates

"Specifically, it is two 1100 mAh LiIon cells in parallel, physically taped together."

However, the links on eBay lead to a square, flat-looking battery.  Am I confusing models, batteries, or just confused in general?  Maybe I should just open the machine and look?  (I'm clumsy and worried about breaking it!)

You're looking at the right battery. As long as it says "works with Archos Recorder V2", then whip out the credit card and purchase!

Yes, those batteries are two cells taped together.  For example look at http://i19.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/b2/99/0b83_1_sbl.JPG .  Note that there are two separate + signs and two separate - signs.  Also, if you look carefully you can see a dark line cutting across the small face on the - side.  That's the gap between the two cells.  

I'm not even sure if you even require two separate cells instead of one big one because the cells are connected in parallel by the V2 Recorder.

You're right, thanks for that link..I see exactly what you mean!  I think I read instructions somewhere showing cylindrical (AA-shaped) batteries, a pair on each side under the blue corner bumpers, but I think that must have been for a different model.
