I have abosolutely no idea how it happened, but my ipod wouldn't turn on completely. It said very low power, so I let it charge. Problem solved, right? Not really....It kept showing me in iPod mode that the battery was in the red after at least an hour charging. So I switched it to Rockbox mode, and it told me I had 31% power only. I charged it overnight (using AC outlet), and it made no difference. I shut it down, walked down a hall to plug it in my PC to see if that would charge it more. I turned it on before plugging it in, and it was at 20% when a minute prior it was at 30%.
I haven't dropped it recently, neither gotten it wet, soiled, or dusty. It's been cold, but I don't think 50 degrees would do much harm.
Any suggestions?
Should I let the battery completely deplete?
EDIT - double double posts merged by Soap:
so yeah, with the suggestions of my co-workers, they told me to discharge it completely then charge it again. Or buy a new battery (which i'll probably self-install, god help me), or a new iPod.
So, I discharged it at work, went to my place, charged it (via AC input, not PC), and it loads rockbox and about a second later it hard-shuts-off. Same thing with loading the original firmware, but in that case, it won't completely load the UI. It just shuts off, and keeps trying over and over again. No longer time to load (like it should IF it was charging). Same shut-off rate.
I have a feeling it's not charging at all.
I'm a sad camper, I don't even think I can get my data out of it.
*sigh*
Anybody have any idea what I'm talking about whatsoever?
Should I back up my data before attempting to drain the battery?
If there are internal power issues, where would I be able to get it repaired?
