Word Wrap
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:18:17 PM »
Can this be done with Rockbox:
I want to see the File Name (not tags) without the extension.
I want it to Word Wrap down (scrolling only if it has to) as many lines as my display has.
I want the font to be large, something like Arial 18 or 20

Next, since my current mp3 player (Creative Zen Sleek)  won't do Rockbox, any recommendations for a Rockbox compatible player that will give me a big, clear readout (b/w is fine, not going to do album art etc) and a capacity of 20gb + ? Thanks in advance!!

1) Use the File Browser rather than the database.

2) You will have to modify the source.

3) You can convert just about any font into a format that Rockbox can use.  Though using such a big font on a small screen (with word wrapping) sounds like it would make scrolling through long lists quite unmanageable.

Thanks, Chronon!
Your point is well taken. Guess what I really need is for all the files to be shown in a smaller font and just take up one line while I'm scrolling to make a selection, but once I've selected, I'd like the big font and word wrap--does that sound possible?
(I would have preferred to stay away from tags altogether, but with Mp3Tag I guess I could have one tag be an abbreviation for the scroll list and another be the full file name)

You certainly don't have to use tags.  It's your choice.  Rockbox allows you to view the contents of your harddrive directly (the file browser), so you never have to deal with metadata tags if you so choose.

I think that you can have separate fonts for WPS and menus with the multifont patch.  But this functionality is not in SVN so you'll need to patch your own build or download an appropriate one from the Unsupported Builds forum.

Thanks again! So, it looks like it might be a good thing to pursue buying a Rockbox-compatible mp3 player and perhaps I could get it to do what I need.

Does anyone know if any of the Rockbox capable players would be better for what I want to do (no tags, filenames only, large type word-wrapped while playing)? For example, is one +/- 2" diagonal screen of one brand/model pretty much the equivalent of another once they are displaying Rockbox, or are some less clear?

I have owned both the Gigabeat and the 5g iPod.  I think both screens look pretty good, though the pixel size is a bit smaller on the Gigabeat.
