Problem with c240
« on: December 12, 2007, 09:53:42 PM »
I want to install rockbox onto my c240 (I already have rockbox on my gigabeat f40 and e250 and love it). The main problem I am having is in downgrading the firmware since I don't have msc mode (my fw version is 01.01.05P). I do the usual things to get into recovery mode and see the 16MB-FORMAT drive but I am confused as to which files I am exactly copy to it. The instruction says that I must copy the unzipped files but my zip program says that the SansaC200P1_01_00.7z file is not a zip file. So, I tried copying it into the 16MB-FORMAT drive and disconnecting the player but the player simply started again in the same firmware again (of course, without the msc setting). I tried this a couple of times and feel that I am missing something basic. I would appreciate it if someone could help me with this.

Use a program that supports .7z files. Like 7-zip.

Also, if you get stuck, don't just try things. That's the best way possible to damage your player. As as soon as you get to a step that's not working how the instructions say it should work. Even  Googling what a .7z file probably would've given you an answer. You're rather lucky your player chose to ignore the file rather than to write it, and become unusable even in the OF.

Wow, thanks a lot! That was super fast and, of course, now it works! :) Guess I should have posted sooner as I did waste a couple of hours trying random stuff (like even extracting rockbox.zip to the 16MB-FORMAT drive which didn't even make much sense to me) and risked bricking my machine as well. I have never heard of a 7z file until now and I do use computers a lot  :-[ and I first thought it was a .z file (the old unix compress file format) when gzip and zip didn't understand the file - needless to say that didn't work!
