any noise or usb issues left with sansa e200 series???
« on: December 11, 2007, 08:55:33 PM »
hi folks,

i once bought a sansa e250 and used rockbox on it.
unfortunately, i discovered some noise, especially during
starting up a song, changing volume and browsing (i think)...

i read in a thread that this seems to be a hardware problem.
beacuse of this and the fact that usb data transfer didnt work
with rockbox at that time i broght the player back.

how is the situation (usb; noise) NOW?? is there progress?

i would be glad to get some info
cheers

Yes, the noise issue exists, and the USB is in progress. Please don't ask about this in the forums, though. We have no clue when it will be fixed (could be a little while, could be a long while).

it would be interesting to know if that noise can be
eliminated or not (e.g. because of unchangable hardware behaviour)

I'm not sure on that, but I can tell you that I experience the noise in rockbox AND the original firmware.

It can't be eliminated without changing the hardware.

FS#4937 - A constant rhythmic ticking noise occurs in the right
channel. Believed to be related to our slow I2C implementation, and occurs
when the battery status and/or realtime clock are updated (the battery is
read at up-to 2.5hz and the clock at up-to 1hz). Nothing is going to change
with it until someone spends a lot of time analyzing the portalplayer's I2C
control registers, or finds a datasheet for the thing.

read this and the rest of the issues in

.rockbox/docs/knownissues.txt

-edit
forgot to mention. sandisk released an updated version of the sansa. not the V2, just a re-vamped e200, and they addressed  the ticking in the sansa firmware along with other problems. i dont know if that has a connection to rockbox but my sansa doesnt tick anymore in RB.

(edited the "not the v2 but a middle version" i too found it misleading)

After maybe 15-20 song, i hear maybe .5sec of a part of a song played really fast. Is that the noise you speak about?

the newer E200s are easy to spot inside and out.

1.the scroll wheel is not as rough anymore, instead its a fine texture. and its easy to scroll now
2.the LCD display now has a gasket around it to keep dust from getting in through the SD slot.
3.a small felt curtain is said to be placed inside the micro SD slot to keep dust from entering. but i havent found it.

i think thats it... besides the audio fix.

i never encountered a problem with songs playing very fast in some parts. i would try reinstalling rockbox. i dont know however.

I don't think that version he mentioned exists.

sry.
no i dont MEAN a newer version.
sandisk added a few extra goodies onto the first sansa. problems that people complained about (i.e dust in the screen and the screen going white) they fixed.

its not a version.
