Unable to run new download on IPOD video 30G

(1/1)

odonnell:
I have been running an old (July 2006) version on my IPOD video 30G for some time.

I just tried to upgrade to the latest version. I'm pretty sure that I followed the instructions correctly---unzipping the archive directly into the root of the IPOD file system. I verified with "ls -l" and "diff -r" that plausible changes were in fact made. I tried the latest and three different daily builds. I also tried moving or copying .rockbox/rockbox.ipod down to the root level (since I observed that it had been there before).

In all cases that I tried, the rockbox loader appeared to work, and produced the message "Rockbox loaded." But no more activity. I watched the loader display for a few minutes, with no response to normal Rockbox button commands, including holding the lower circle down for shutdown. I was able to shutdown with the select+menu, and to reach the IPOD native system and the disk mode.

I restored a saved version from April 2006 (like a doofus, forgot to save the later one), and it works fine.

I verified that I was getting the 30G version and not the 60/80G.

Any hints greatly appreciated.

I think there's been a new boot loader released since then - the installation section of the manual should point you in the right direction.  rockbox.ipod has also been moved from the root to inside .rockbox, but the boot loader will still try to run /rockbox.ipod before /.rockbox/rockbox.ipod, so you need to delete the old version.

Thanks for the advice, which seems to be right on. I had just tried reinstalling the boot loader, and I'm now running the latest system.
