Putting the sound settings menu back during playback
« on: December 11, 2007, 06:23:21 AM »
I notice now since October it is no longer possible to go directly to the sound settings when playing music back and instead you are returned to the root menu. This is incredibly annoying as my usual thing is to adjust the bass and treble from time to time (mostly turning down the bass when increasing the volume and vice versa). It now requires  two more button presses and is impossible to navigate blindly. I know two button presses sounds like I am being lazy but when one uses the bass/treble so frequently it really isn't.

I have had a look around for tips on restoring this function but to no avail. Is it possible I can reconfigure this myself without recompiling anything?

There was never a "Sound Settings" button. Perhaps you're thinking of the context menu. I'd strongly recommend reading the manual, and making sure you're familiar with the current button mappings.

Sorry, what I meant was the button that brings up the context menu now goes to the very start, previously it went to settings where I could then just enter into sound settings and adjust the bass. I would like to return the functionality to how it was around the October builds before it was changed. There are no other keys (on my sansa) that I can press to make it go back to settings instead of the root.

I don't honestly see the point of going all the way back to the menu that shows

files
database
now playing
settings
etc

Considering most of those functions will stop playback and do something else.  You can very quickly get there by pressing select and left-left-left-left or the power button.  In fact there are two buttons on the sansa e280 that do the same thing (power and select).

Power and Select do not do the same thing.

Meanwhile, the context menu was not removed.

I suggest again, much more strongly now, that you read the manual.

And by the way, "Select" leaves the WPS without stopping playback (for further queuing, browsing, etc) and takes you to either the current file (if follow playlist is enabled) or where you invoked the WPS from.

"Power" stops playback. Which of course banishes the WPS as well, due to the whole "P" part of the abbreviation.

But I'm nut sure what basis you choose to say they're identical under, as they only really are if you're deaf and I have a suspicion that would be a significant minority of our users.

Jesus, why do i have to get the smug patronising admin member answering my thread.

I am trying to explain that the context menu now goes to the ROOT instead of SETTINGS which has been changed between Now and October 2007.

I've read the manual and regardless of what the manual has to say the function of pressing the bottom button on the Sansa now takes you to this menu

Files
Database
Resume Playback
Settings
Recording
FM Radio
Playlists
Plugins
System

It USED to take you to this part of the menu

Sound Settings
General Settings
Theme Settings
Recording Settings
Manage Settings.

That is what I would like it to do again before it was changed.

I guess you'll take a huff now and ban me for my exasperation in the fact you purposefully don't read properly because I've only got a few posts and you assume I've no idea what I am talking about. Just because I am new to the forum doesn't mean I am new to rockbox. I only signed up to find out if I could get back the functionality of a previous build because it was better than the current build.

Yeah ok, stop patronising me. I was checking the buttons without listening to the player at the time. Visually it appears to do a similar thing in that it returns me to the track list and then you can press the back button to go back through the artist/album information and then into the menus.

I didn't say the button didn't go to the context menu. That's your buddy up there saying that.

I said that the button goes to a different part of the context menu. Now it returns to the ROOT of the menu when before it went into the SETTINGS part of the menu. Which was more convenient to access the sound settings while in playback to adjsut the bass and treble. Now there is an extra menu step involved.  That's in the manual cos i checked.

That must have been a bug then, because it should really go to the root of the WPS context menu.

Right, well that's a shame.

It wasn't perfect but it was the quickest way I could find to adjust the bass/treble.

Are you doing a LONG press, rather than a short tap?

The LONG press of Select goes to where the button beneath the wheel used to go.

And don't double post. Use the edit button. This is in the forum guidelines. You really need to get into the habit of "Read first, then talk" both in regards to the manual and posting guidelines.

Right now I see.

If i tap the select button it goes back to the track list. If i hold that button in it goes to the settings menu.

It had gotten confusing because things have obviously been changed around.

Thanks.

Ach well, you can ban me, I'll get a new IP and Username and we can all start over like this never happened.  ;D
