pictureflow
« on: December 10, 2007, 03:25:30 PM »
Not knowing what pictureflow was I checked it out and I am amazed, this looks exactly like what they got in the iphone. :D only thing is that it doesn't play the desired album :(

Is there any chance for this to become the default album viewer in Database?

A bug, when you have all 100x100 and one image that is smaller it draws the image/bottomeffect on the top which basically looks weird. Can anyone change it to fit at the bottom so I can keep thinking that blackness is a table? :)

I doubt it will become the default album view (this is just opinion).  Pictureflow uses the main buffer to store all the images, so it usually has to stop playback to do this unless either the buffered songs or the pictures are very small (as I understand it), so using it to navigate would require everytime you go to the database to browse music stopping.

However, I don't know if it would be possible to use it as it is currently but select album, perhaps someone with a better technical grasp of the plugin interface can answer that one.

I sat in the IRC channel while discussion was going on about the new plugin, the people working on it (currently the guy who ported the original code and Nico_P) would like it to play the selected album at some point, but there's no chance it's going to be put into the core code and used as a default viewer.  At least, that's where things sat last I heard about it.

Not sure if it works as I've not tried it but I've read about the possibility of running a ROCK file automatically on startup of the player, so it might be possible to go down that path... "autorock.rock", from memory...

...is all I found, but it is certainly possible with a custom build.

if you #define AUTOROCK in apps/main.c rockbox will try to start ".rockbox/rocks/apps/autostart.rock" on startup

Just to add to the thought of PictureFlow being the default db viewer.... I also think it is not likely to be the default viewer but I would like to see it eventually be easily accessible from the WPS. even if playback has to be stopped when opening PictureFlow, it would be great to go straight from the WPS into the plugin(of course not much point until PictureFlow can start playing the selected album:)

Keep up the GREAT work

johnson4: yeah, somehow this does sound at least a bit optimistic :) This could be at least a "bridge solution" to 'ease the pain' while waiting for the full thing...

I'm not a software designer, but I doubt that a song has to be loaded completely into the buffer RAM in order to be played. What about longer files then, for example (they play fine, don't they)?

Default or not - it could stay an option, but it would be awfully nice to include PictureFlow into the core-code!!!

The best way to implement it would be as a plugin called by database, or the file browser.

There may well be some technically acceptable way of linking it to the database so you can select albums with it, and whilst I have no say in rockbox decisions, I can pretty catagorically say it will not (ever) become the default.

update to the newest build and it will have it...

As for it being a default viewer, I'm totally against it seeing as how slow the whole thing is. Imagine having hundreds or even thousands of albums, having pictureflow as the default viewer would make it a pain in the ass to browse. Even if you can play the album with pictureflow I still see it as a mere eyecandy, welcomed but still eyecandy.

describing it as mere eyecandy wouldn't do it justice. I think it's a great way of browsing albums, espeacially for people who think more visual than others.
It can be useful when you keep forgetting artist's and album's names as well (as long as you don't forget what the albums look like). In my opinion it's the most "realistic" way of browsing we have. When you're searching for a specific record in your collection you are probably going to identify it by it's cover.

maybe but its not reason enough to make it a default viewer. It's just not functional enough when you'r dealing with a music collection enough to fill up a store.
