Which player has the easiest interface for playing doom?
« on: December 10, 2007, 10:10:54 AM »
I'm intent on giving my brother the gift of Rockbox for christmas; which player do you guys think has the best interface for playing Doom?  I look at some of these players and with the simplicity of buttons I have to imagine it can't be easy to play doom on them; is there a player that has an intuitive interface for it?

I would have to say to hunt down an iriver H300, since it has a sufficient amount of buttons.

And although I can't tell you what to do with your DAP, tell your brother that there's much more to Rockbox than just Doom.  :)

The gigabeat can be made to work reasonably well with doom.  The H300 is also a good target.  I would recommend that you change the default button layout for both though since they are designed to be the most intuitive rather than the most functional.  Both the Gigabeat and the H300 are what I have developed the plugin with so I can't comment too much on the functionality of other targets.

The gigabeat has some other added benefits though in that you can play gameboy games at fullspeed with sound and you can also listen to music while playing some of the smaller gameboy games.

The e200 Series works fine with DooM. There are enough buttons, The sound is perfect and everything else is fine.
