Installing Rockbox after reformatting?

Something about my browser isn't letting me search, so I apologize if this has been covered already.

I'd like to get a player to act as a Windows PE 2 system or a portable Linux system. That would require reformatting and partitioning the drive. Will Rockbox work properly if a player has been reformatted?

I don't understand what you're asking exactly. What does Rockbox have to do with Windows PE or Linux?

Rockbox depends on the drive being an active FAT32 partition (or FAT16 on some smaller capacity devices)

I'd be using the DAP as storage for it instead of just a dedicated USB key.

It would help if you let us know which DAP you're planning on doing this with. Some will react better (in terms of still running Rockbox) to repartitioning than others.
