Yes, but it used to do it automatically, apparently it is a bit hit and miss now.

You do realise that all versions of Rockbox are considered "developer versions" right? Well apart from the 2.5 release for Archos targets. We'd love to offer a stable version for iPod and other targets but we're not there yet.

I think he's saying that it would be nice if this weren't so, and a stable release was available like "most other open source projects".

Yep. Precisely that.

And I have an iPod Mini 2nd gen. Sorry, been a bit confused...  ???

If you want to have only developer versions: Well, it's your work, you're giving it away for free, and that's really great, so: Do it the way you like. I definitely do not want to critize the developers. It's your project.

Maybe an archive for old binaries would be a good solution. Hard disk space is really cheap today, so this shouldn't be a big problem. With an archive, I could switch back to the version before the USB stack and be perfectly happy. Unfortunately I can't find the version of the initial install anywhere and this was my first update, so I'm stuck with the current build.

Anyway, Rockbox is much much much better than the original OS, which pauses my iPod every few seconds because it doesn't like my new headphones. So, keep on the good work!

safetydan:
My point was more that the iPod (and other) builds have never been stable. They've always had warnings about being development builds. You've installed it your own risk. When we solve problems like the USB stack and some others, then we'll spin off a stable release which will be bug fixes only. So it's not that we're ignoring the usual stable/developer build split, it's just that we've never reached a point we consider "stable".

As for older builds, around a month of builds are kept (see here http://www.rockbox.org/dl.cgi?bin=ipodmini2g) but if you need an older build you'll have to check out the source from that date (which you can do using Subversion) and build your own.
