sansa sound dock in rockbox
« on: December 08, 2007, 08:30:40 PM »
if i were to plug a sansa into those Altec Lansing sound docks, would rockbox associate with it through the USB socket? like the sansa firmware does.

reason being is that i use a micro SDHC (4gig) in the flash socket to hold my music. sansa cant read the SDHC card but rockbox can. since sansa wont read the card the music wont play in sansa. does rockbox integrate with sound docks? or is that somthing that is coming with the USB support?

the reason i keep the music on the SDHC is so that sansa doesnt mess up the music as they can do and have done to me... multiple times. instead i keep movies on the main drive.

thanks

changed title, i found it sort of misleading

Rockbox will work with line out devices, but not things that need serial or USB for connectivity.  So it depends on how you sound dock thing connects.

the speakers work through the USB dock on the bottom. so thats a no for docking features. however charging should still work i would think. its just another USB male inside the dock. so power should still be routed as if it was plugged into a PC.

correct me if im wrong. but wouldn't the sansa e200 have 2 audio outs. one 1/8" jack for headphones at the top. and 1 inside the docking collar at the bottom? so sound would go to the external speakers?

i gather this after a discovery (over at ABI) that a member made where the sansa view had a video out along with the USB connector.

The thing at the bottom isn't just a USB connector.  Its also a line out and various other things.

aparently, with firmware version 1.02.15 if you plug in your sansa while it's off, it goes it'll charge and let you play music.  it used to work for me, but i don't know if it stopped working because i have rockbox or if its because i have 1.02.18.

Confirmed, my Rockboxed Sansa e200 works perfectly (ie. plays music, does not associate docking with USB mode) with the Altec Lansing iM510, my c200 however does not play music when docked in the speaker system though. Hopefully it'll be updated with the next firmware update.

On a side note, I once had a rockboxed IPOD mini (back in 2006) and when using it on an iM7 (that tube boombox style speaker system that I wish they'd make for the Sansas) I found that the ipod played sound but could not receive input from the remote control that came with the AL iM7.

Hope that helps.
