Help a noob for the holdays? c240 upload troubles
zombiedad:
Okay, I (finally! ;D) got my Sansa from Woot and I want to upload Rockbox (that weird aardvark scares me!). I've tried following the manual but it seems like nothing works.
Can someone please explain the difference between USB, MSC, and UMS modes to me ??? I think I've managed to get a few of the formats to show up (click on hold, press record, jiggle the handle, hop on one foot, etc.), I've managed to manually upload RB, but when I go to load sansapatcher it tells me I need to set it up in UMS format. Any help?

MarcGuay:
2 USB Modes:
1) MSC/UMS: Treats your player like any other storage device.
2) MTP: Some nonsense Microsoft came up with to confuse you.
If you go to Settings->USB Mode on your player and can choose MSC, do it. If you can't, check out the wiki (pat your head and rub your belly) instructions on how to roll back the firmware, then check the settings menu again, MSC should show up as an option.

Firmware's been rolled (1.1 from 1.3). Computer sees it in MSC mode (thanks, Marc) and reads it as drive j:
Reloaded RB to the machine 8-) done.
Now, to the boot loader. No problems there.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have ROCKBOX! WooHOO! :D
Now to load up some tunes... Thanks everyone!

My pleasure. Enjoy the freedom (is that a corporate slogan yet?).

No, but I think it could work for Rockbox quite well. "open source jukebox firmware" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. ;)
