My Doom Wads have very little if any sound
« on: December 06, 2007, 03:05:19 PM »
I own all the Doom wads. I got the Doom emu for my Sansa e250R. When I play, I can barely hear anything at all. All I hear is a few gunshots, (3 times outta 10) some monsters (2 times outta 10) that it. No music, no other sound.

Yea, there is no music, only sound effects etc.. Gun fire. If it had music it night be a pretty good game to play on the player.

it is a great game to play, rockbox is one of the only programs that can portably play doom, if you want music crank up the stereo. doom puts a decent amount of strain on the cpu, so music would almost be impossible to smoothly incorporate

If I remember correctly, the music for Doom is MIDI. Given that the MIDI plugin already struggles to play MIDI songs by themselves, I don't see them being played at the same time as Doom. So I doubt you'll ever have music and Doom at the same time.

Except maybe on one of the future targets with massive amounts of CPU.

Actually, if you want to dig really deep into WAD editing, music files were in a .MUS format. .MIDI is easily converted over to .MUS, though.

I'm a WAD editor :D

As far as I know. MUS files still contain the music in MIDI format, which means it's still a MIDI format playback issue.
