Navigation n' stuff
« on: December 06, 2007, 09:53:16 AM »
Hi,

first i wanted to thank the devs for rockbox -> great application, i choose my newly bought sansa e280 because it supported it :)

second, i wanted to ask if it was possible to jump from the play screen (where song title, length, etc. is displayed) directly to the folder where the file is stored, or alternatively, as rockbox is playlist based, to the place in the playlist the file is at. (wich also means not letting rockbox "mess up" the playlist when i precreated on my computer and try to play the songs shuffled)

i ask that because i usually upload whole albums in the /artist name/album name; kind of way and just shuffle the whole player, while still  being able to choose another song from that album and not having to go through the whole database -> scrolling -> finding process :)

thanks again

Look in the manual for the "Follow playlist" option.

Look in the manual for the "Follow playlist" option.

yes, i tried that, but it displays the playlist out of order (-> shuffled)

what im looking for is a winamp-like playlist wich retains its order and just chooses a file randomly without messing it up.

thanks anyway ;)

That sounds like you've shuffled the playlist, rather than just turning on "shuffle" - which are two different options.

This is a complete lie, as pointed out by LinusN below. No gold star for me today.

i used the shuffle function under General Settings/Playback ... if it's on, it shuffles the playlist, if it's off, it doesnt.  i couldnt find anything else :(

I guess it's time you follow your own advice in your signature: "Read the manual"  :). The Shuffle option does shuffle the playlist, and it is shuffled in the playlist viewer as well. We have no support for the Winamp style random play.

I'll get my coat then...

Ah - I understand my error.

I very rarely use shuffle (does it show :) ) and as such when I hit the "select" key when listening to music, which brings up the filebrowser, I consider this my playlist.

You are completely correct though - if I go to the actual playlist viewer, then the list is indeed shuffled.

Apologies for my astute thick headedness :)

It follows (it seems to me) though, that this would achieve what the OP wanted. He keeps his shuffled playlist, but going to the filebrowser should bring him to a view of all the songs in the current album his listening to, which he can then "Queue next" on to get it to play next without screwing with the entire list.

yeah, thats *almost* what i was looking for, the only problem is, that is deletes the current playlist (the one with all songs on the player) and replaces it with one from that directory ...

gosh, i slowly feel like making a big fuzz about my lowly problem :(

This is not true. It only replaces the playlist if you just "play" the new song.

If you go via the Context menu, you can choose "queue next" to insert the file as the next file into your playlist, and it will be removed again, when it was played..

so your "all songs" playlist stays..
