Sansa E200 Firmware and Rockbox: Which has priority?

(1/2) > >>

Kasperl:
First post ever here, so I apologize if I am treading well worn ground. My question is quite simple. I am looking to hook my Sansa E260 up with the Rockbox firmware that is currently available. The reason I am even looking into this is the undeniable fact that it seems the default factory OS had to be programmed by a sadist. In between undeletable files and mandatory multiple reformats, one gets just a little irritated. When I install the rockbox firmware onto the player will these flaws from the original player carry over? I am not intending to play video games or even store pictures, all I want is to simply be able to play music and not have to completely reformat the bastard every week because the files magically became currupt despite the fact that it was working only five minutes ago.

TL;DR Will the flaws of the factory OS carry over onto Rockbox?

P.S.
This morning I had 444 fully functioning audio files. As of 1:30 this afternoon al but 20 are unplayably currupt. Meaning I'll have to do my sixth or seventh reformat since getting my SECOND Sansa e260 straight from the factory floor.

safetydan:
Files generally don't corrupt themselves. Are you unmounting or "Safely Removing" your Sansa before unplugging it? If you don't, this could lead to filesystem corruption.

Kasperl:
As far as I understand it, yes I am using the safely remove function. Another odd quirk that the 4 Gig model has that between powerups files will become currupt. In some odd and very rare cases they will just as magically become no longer currupt. As mentioned in the post script, I had charged my e260 and removed it this morning. From 10:00am until a little after noon I used it and it functioned normally. However, when reactivated at  about 1:30pm all but about 20 files suddenly became currupt and unplayable. This is the worst thing to happen on my second model so far.

safetydan:
It sort of sounds like a hardware problem. If it is a hardware problem, then Rockbox will suffer the same issue. If it's not a hardware problem, then Rockbox might help you.

Kasperl:
Any ideas on what I could do to solve this problem? If we go by Amazon reveiws, I am about one of sixty or so users to have this problem. It is also my understanding that this issue seems to be limited to the 4 gig e260 model and is almost unheard of on the higher and lower capacity models.
