E280 Disfunctional USB connection
«

I have recently purchased a sansa e280 and installed rockbox on it, this may or may not be related to the fact that i cannot connect to the computer in MSC mode. It will charge and display "ghost" targets for where my player ans MSD card should be (i.e F: and G but wont allow me to access there actual contents. I am able to access the recovery mode, and i have tried running e200fw01.00.12.exe, but it reports that "the downloaded image is not compatible with connected device". OR cannot read version.txt file I am in the process of tracking down a copy of an Mi4 file and i am wondering whether or not i can replace the pacicific file with perhaps the american veersion of it as a0 i dont use asian lettering anyway adn b0 its not been easy to find my desired pacific .mi4 file. Also, when in MTP mode files cannot be shifted to certain targets succesfully through explore function in windows, (i.e. codecs will not copy to codecs folder?
) THank you anyone who can help me.

I also answered your same question on the Sandisk forum:
You have to use the original Sansa software to access the player. Rockbox doesn't work with USB (for now).
Press and hold |<< while you turn it on to get to the original software, then plug it into the computer.

Dammit will im not retarded!!! Heres a copy of my reply from the sandisk forum, hope u like my use of the english language!
"i am quite aware of rockbox's capabilities, and if you have read my problem thoroughly you would have noticed that my debarcle lies within the OF, MSC mode does not work using sansa's firmware, possibly due to my experimentation with custom rockbox builds (**bleep** thy flashy precompiled patches, they are so alluring). I have tried replacing the "custom" rockbox files with the originals but it just got rid of the whole folder. I need to know how to replace the sansa firmware without the sansa recovery console as it doesnt work. What does this console check for in terms of the version.txt file anyway??? Mine is empty! Having trouble copying files (other than music) using MTP anyway, player will randomly freeze, and some folders will not accept certain files (i.e. codecs will not go into desired folder). also i get random files appearing in some of the remaining rockbox folders?
I am lost!!! Can i have an easy solution oh great people of this community as i rathr like my sansa and i have little use for a paperweight!
Thanks neway will, looking forward to hearing from you again (this time with a solution to my little problem)
(Why cant i have a user name in full 1337 on this site???)

OK, i will make my request a little easier, how can i get my sansa back to square one (nothing but the OF on it), without using MSC mode or the current sansa recovery (unless you can tell me how to get it to work?). I dont want a brick so please keep it reasonably simple. That or ill just brick it even more then get it exchanged at harvey norman!
Thank You (that is if u can assist me!)

Maybe you should consider reading and following the forum posting guidelines.
For example, using real English, and not words like "u", and using the edit function rather than posting multiple times in a row. In this manner you can avoid irritating the very people you're seeking help from.
What exactly happens when you try to use MSC mode, or Recovery mode, and have you tried using them with another computer?

Sorry, im a bit of a noob, well, when in MSC mode;
a) The device is not recognised, or
b) I'll get empty drives (not labled as sansa e200) for my MSD and my MP3 player
I have, using recovery mode, reinstalled the .mi4 file (not using sandisks recovery console as it did not recognise my device (Version.txt was invalid)). This did not help my cause at all. I have attempted, using MTP mode, to get rid of the remainder of my rockbox files, but things freeze up on the player and i have to reset it. Should i try and format it (using the recovery mode), if so, how? I have tried to use my player on anothr system, same result!
Thank you, I'll learn all the rules in due time.

If you've reinstalled the MI4 file (meaning it boots to the sandisk firmware by default), no Rockbox code is being run at all. Any other problems you're having at that point are either problems in the Sandisk firmware, or hardware problems. From your description (the fact that neither MSC nor Recovery mode work, and MTP mode results in unreliable behaviour) it sounds like you simply have a faulty Sansa.

Thank you very much, at last a relevant reply. I'm using the original bootloader now so i should have no problems getting it exchanged, it would be nice to know what caused it to die though!
Looking forward to posting again, thanks to everyone for their help in the matter.
