Sansa e200 video problems
«

I've read through the wiki, the message boards, and the instructions, but I've yet to come up with a solution.
I have a video in the Sansa video folder that does not show up in the Rockbox interface (when I go to videos, there is nothing to select). When I boot in the original interface it works, but nothing in the Rockbox (for that matter, I can't seem to get pictures to work either - I can see the .jpg's title, but nothing happens when I select it).
I have tried using MediaCoder to convert the video into an MPEG, but that didn't seem to help.
Any thoughts?
thanks,

If it shows up in the Sandisk firmware, it's not an MPEG, it's a video converted for use with their firmware, and most definitely will not be usable in Rockbox, nor will it be visible if you have File View set to "Supported" as it's an unsupported format.

True - since attempting to convert it to an MPEG2 it fails to show up in either.

Okay - I've determined that I just can't figure out how to make MediaCoder work. I've found an MPEG file that I have on my computer, and it does show up in Rockbox. So I guess I'm just being technically incompetent.

Please use the modify feature if no one else has posted.
Regarding MediaCoder, did you properly extract the .zip file from the PluginMpegplayer page? Were you presented with a list of Rockbox targets when you clicked the "Extension" button?

Yes, I was. I was able to select the Sansa in the extensions.
The MPEGS I convert play in the Windows Media Player, but won't play (or show up) on Rockbox...so there must be something small that I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for your help.

What do you mean that they don't show up in Rockbox? What extension do the files have when they are done? What is "show files" set to?

I think that if he was converting them correctly he would not have a problem at all. There is most likely some error being made. I have not used media coder but i would suggest checking every specification before converting to make sure the video is rockbox compatible. If that does not work i would switch over to WinFF, i've been using that since i first came across it in the forums and it has worked like a charm.

That's a good idea - I chose MediaCoder because it seemed the simplest, but obviously I'm not doing something right.
to the previous poster: The files do have the MPEG ending, but in Rockbox, under videos, the file names don't show up for me to select.
I should note - I'm a complete novice to video editing and recording, so all of the numbers like 176x220, 58 fps, etc. are a bit confusing. Therefore, it's pretty likely one of my settings is wrong.

There is no "Videos" option in the official build of Rockbox. What are you talking about?

Main Menu > Files > Video
It's there, right from the initial Rockbox install.

That's a directory you (or the Sansa firmware) have created, it's not a part of Rockbox.
The best way to make sure you're seeing all the files that are on the device, is to set
Settings -> General Settings -> File View -> Show Files
to "All".
If you still can't see the files, you're looking in the wrong place, or they're physically not there on the disk.

Do you have the option to see ALL the files? In the player? Sometimes it shows music only.

Thanks for the replies. I've had some success with a different converter, so it appears I was doing something wrong with MediaCoder.
