No Partition Found error
« on: December 03, 2007, 04:55:28 AM »
Sir,
This is my first post to the forum and its because my iPod has went dead.
Following is what happened...

1. I had Rockbox installed on my iPod 60GB Video.
2. I decided to format my iPod as it had been running for more than an year and the HDD had become hell lotta fragmented.
3. So I manually formatted the iPod through Windows Explorer.
4. By mistake I clicked on the Cancel button while it was formatting.
5. And there started my woes  :'(
6. Now my iPod isn't even getting detected by Windows.
7. It shows the black Bootloader screen, which displays the following info--
       HDD Serial Number
       No Partition Found
       Size of the HDD
       Menu+Select to restart
       Play+Select to......etc etc.

8. I did both the things, i.e. Menu+Select & Play+Select, but nothing happened.
9. It isn't even booting to the original firmware by switching the Hold key.
10. In my opinion (if it matters) I think it isn't getting detected only because of the Rockbox bootloader.

11. Tell me is there any solution to my problem, or any solution to unistall the bootloader.
12. I don't wanna go to the Apple Store as they're charging a hefty amount for restoration.

Pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaasssseeeeeeeeeeeee HEEEEELLLLLPPPP  :'(

Thanks in Advance!!!

This means you're doing it wrong.

Keep trying.

With all due respects Sir, I'm doing it right all the time...

N moreover I've done that thing many times when my iPod was working fine n whenever I had to switch from Apple firmware to Rockbox...

Play+Select doesn't do any good, and the Menu+Select only restarts the iPod and again shos the Rockbox bootloader screen.

Even switching the Hold key while booting doesn't help. It only shows 'HOLD key ON' on the bootloader screen.

Yes, and one more thing which I forgot to mention. My iPod stays ON all the until the battery runs out. It isn't switching off by holding the Play key.

So my problem stands there and the same!!!  :'(

You should always be able to enter disk mode.  As GodEater mentioned, if you haven't been able to do so, you haven't gotten the timing of the key combinations right.

Here are some slightly more detailed instructions on how to enter disk mode:  http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651

Note that you have to reset using Menu + Select first, and then immediately press and hold Select + Play.

Now thats really helpful Sir...

Actually I was doing those key combinations separately!

I will surely try it and let you know. I don't have my iPod with me right now as I'm in a internet-cafe.

But I'm quite sure that it'll work as it sounds good  :D ;)

Thx once again!!!
