Installation freezing with automatic installer.

(1/1)

driftwork:
Hi Folks,

I've got a 4th Generation Ipod.

I have tried and tried to install the Rockbox builder from the automatic installer.

I've put the ipod in disc mode and it connects up to my computer alright.

I can access the drive itself but once I use the installer, I have to manually set the drive letter and mount-point.

It will then freeze during the installation and give an 'aborted' error message.

It does create a ".rockbox" folder but is unable to install anything.

Whats the problem here?

Is the HD of the Ipod 'pooched' (out of order) or something?

Have I missed a step?

Is there some diagnostic tool (not using itunes) that can test the ipod drive?

Thanks in advance,

driftwork

GodEater:
You could try running chkdsk on the drive - but that can only check the partition where all your music lives - not the partition where the firmware is - since that has no file system as such.

I have run a full diagnostic on the ipod and surprisingly........ everything is A OK. Its run a full disc scan and even the USB connection is ok.

I really have no idea what the problem is   :-\

GodEater:
The next thing to try in that case is either an iTunes restore (to make sure the firmware on the iPod is all in one piece and hasn't been messed with) or the Manual Restore instructions from our wiki (to acheive the same thing, but without wiping the music content from your iPod.)
