Proper charging via USB for PortalPlayer targets with Rockbox?

(1/2) > >>

woodensoul:
I remember seeing in the SVN comments that the PortalPlayer targets now request the correct current to allow charging when connected to USB without needing to boot to the OF.  Is this correct?  Also, will charging work if connecting a Sansa e200 to the wall with an AC to USB adapter?  I charged with this adapter in Rockbox on the Sansa and after several hours, it didn't seem to fully charge the battery.

MarcGuay:
I just "charged" my Sansa e280 for 3+ hours via the USB port and the battery level didn't go up at all.  Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but from my understanding if you plug the player in while holding the Select button, it's supposed to go into charging-only mode.  (The battery level display jumped to 100%).  The player was inactive, but on, so it couldn't have been a more-drain-than-gain situation.  Anybody have any thoughts on this?  Is the percentage battery level a reliable source of information?  I'm going to try with an AC adapter now to see if that acts any differently.

So I tried it with the AC Adapter and had the same problem, but it seems that not everyone has this issue, (see http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=10597.0, http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=13812.msg104851#msg104851, http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=14085.0) so the answer to your question seems to be: Perhaps?  There's also a bug posted in flyspray http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/7320.

dwonk:
You guys charging it in OF?  There is some limit, apparently, in RB that only allows 100mA rather than 500mA from the USB.  If you use an AC wall charger, the OF should allow for greater than 500mA and is preferred over using the USB from a computer.

MarcGuay:
I was referring to charging with Rockbox, which is supposed to be drawing a full charge on PortalPlayer targets now.

saratoga:
It draws full current, but charging isn't actually enabled without a patch.
