Having trouble navigation rockbox.
« on: December 01, 2007, 06:25:47 PM »
I have just recently installed Rockbox on my 1st gen ipod mini. I am having trouble navigating the interface. If I wanted to make a playlist, such as on the original apple stock firmware, how would I do that? How would I make multiple playlists containing 2 or more songs and have easy access to them? I have tried everything relating to "playlists" in the interface with no avail. Please help.

Have you read the relevant sections in the manual?

Yes, I have, but i cannot understand how to do it. It is also my understanding that in the manual it states that if a playlist is created, playing a new song will delete that playlist. I want to know how to make multiple playlists with multiple songs in each. I cannot find out how to do that. It would be helpful if someone explained it.

Okay, I took a look at the manual and I agree that it could use some clean up.  In the "Adding music to  playlists" section (4.4.3) it mentions the Insert, Insert now, Insert last, Queue, etc. commands.  It says that these are found in the Playlist Submenu, which it says is a submenu of the File Menu.  This is probably where your confusion comes in since there's an entry called Files in the Main Menu.

At the beginning of Chapter 4 (4.1.1) it mentions the File Browser controls.  Among these it says to press Long Select in order to enter the File Menu.  So, once you have located a directory or file that you would like to add to your playlist you do a long press of Select to bring up the File Menu.  This will take you to the Playlist Submenu and everything should hopefully be clear from there.

Ok, so I long center click an MP3 and "insert" it. After I have done that a couple of times with a couple of songs, then what do I do?

What you've done is to create a dynamic playlist.  You can then save that playlist:

If you want to work on multiple playlists, create several playlists and then use the "Playlist catalog" menu to insert your chosen song into the playlist of your choice.

Can you then name that playlist? If you wanted to create another playlist, where then would the first playlist be stored?

Ok, I found the songs I want in a certain playlist and ive "inserted" them. They are now in the playlist, which I can acess by clicking "playlists" on the main menu and clicking "view current playlist". Now, when I click "Save current playlist" it shows the keyboard. I name it and click play, it says the playlist is saved. After that, nothing happens. They playlist is not named or saved, and when I try to put another song in the playlist it all dissapears. When I click "view catalog" it says "no playlists". What is going on, and how do I save multiple playlists?

If you choose "Save current playlist" in the menu and enter a name it will be saved in the root of your drive (_not_ inside the "playlist catalog") To make a new playlist _in_ the catalog choose "Playlist catalog" instead of "Playlist" from the context menu and inside that submenu choose "Add to new playlist"/"Add to playlist" as appropriate. However this is not necessary to save a playlist, the method you used first works as well, just enter "Files" in the main menu and select your playlist to load it.
