should i buy an iriver h10
« on: December 01, 2007, 02:45:03 PM »
I have been considering buying a H10-20GB from http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1894257&sku=M975-3072
I read the user reviews off http://www.amazon.com/iRiver-H10-Player-Recorder-Blue/dp/B0009H9PZU and they were were horrendous. I guess thats why it was only $100. Anyway what I was wondering if you people think that using rockbox's firmware would solve the many issues the iriver has.

Long and short of it:

Get an H10, and install Rockbox on it. Your iriver will thank you for it later. :)

Besides, $100 for one is a very good deal.

Thanks for the advice LambdaCalculus379. I was wondering if anybody here actually has a rockboxed iriver h10 and could tell me how well it works. I'm going to have to make the decision whether to buy this or not pretty soon and so far I'm not convinced its worth it because like 90% of the reviews were terrible. Thanks.  Also does this thing play video I did not see video capability in the feature list.

For that price I'd probably look into buying a Gigabeat F.

I could not find anything on the Gigabeat F. There wasn't even a single one to be found on ebay.

Search "gigabeat f40" on ebay. And definitely buy one, They're the best supported players for rockbox right now (or so I've heard).

thanks for the advice crzyboyster why didn't i think of that. The f40 is a little pricey. I found a new refurbished one on ebay for $100. I checked the reviews and they don't have video (does rockbox add this feature?)
PS: Nice bug icon i tried to smash it thinking it was real.

Gigabeats seem to come in waves. I recently picked one up from Ebay for $61, and there were many for sale. Check again after the holiday season.

Rockbox adds MPEG1 video capability.

Unless its a review of Rockbox, whatever you're reading isn't likely to tell you much about how Rockbox runs on the player.

And anyway for Video, the Gigabeat is by far the best choice.  The H10 suffers from slow CPU, just like all the other PP targets.
