Griffin iTalk?
« on: November 29, 2007, 12:46:15 PM »
Just installed Rockbox in an iPod video 60G. The features look great! However, it doesn't work with iTalk as the microphone (with either mic or line input settings). The iTalk works very well with the iPod firmware.

Searched the board but didn't find any answers - is this something that has not been implemented? If so, are there any plans? We were hoping to use the iTalk to record music lessons - I don't know another way to input stereo sound into the iPod video.

Thanks!

A - If you would be a dear and fill out http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodAccessories others can benefit from your discovery.  (registration is required)

B - Line-in recording does work on the iPod Video.  Since you are having issues it is safe to assume the iTalk needs to establish a serial data connection with the iPod in addition to simply feeding the line-in pins on the dock.  Adding support to Rockbox for the Apple Accessory Protocol will be a two step process, as serial drivers need to be written for the hardware in addition to adding support for the protocol itself.  This is not currently being worked on by anyone to the best of my knowledge.

C - In the future please only post Install questions in the Install forum.  Just because it is the only iPod specific forum does not mean it is the proper place for iPod specific queries.

Apologies for posting on the wrong forum. I thought it had to be posted on an iPod specific forum (my first time here).

When you say line-in works, do you mean via the headphone output jack? The iPod Video has no other jack/connector? I will try the iTalk's line-in jack once I get to a pre-amp.

Will put this up on the link you suggested.

Many thanks!

There are line-in pins on the dock-connector.
The iPod video has no other audio-inputs.  The microphone-input-through-left-headphone-jack method was only on the older iPods.
