But SVN doesn't enable cpu boosting...  If this is still going in the right direction, as in less crashes, couldn't this be added to svn, but still keep cpu scaling off? Unless of course you are sure that it doesn't really affect the frequency of crashes at all.

I don't get crashing anymore btw in SVN at the end of tracks.

If it's not a fix then it doesn't belong to SVN.

New bootloaders v2.0 released for Clipv2/Clip+/Fuzev2, instructions and URLs on the wiki as usual.

They increase battery life and get rid of some crashes at boot (the players would boot with a black screen).

The fuzev2 bootloader on the server displays 'Boot Ver. Ver. 2.0' (2 times 'Ver.') so before it is updated you can get a bootloader without the typo here

nice work with the new bootloaders. but i think clip+ users need a new version of mkamsboot if they want to use the latest OF??

there will be no new version of mkamsboot, we won't be making a new release each time Sandisk release a new firmware for any of the supported models.

The choices are:
  • stick with older OF
  • build mkamsboot from SVN (feel free to distribute your own, it's GPL after all, but expect no support for it)
  • use rbutil when a new version is released

Disregard Funman's last post, I used the normal instructions from the SansaAMS Wiki page and got the new bootloader 2.0 installed on my Clip+ just using the Mkamsboot from the normal link.

I don't know if it's a new version of MKB but it seems to work just fine.

UPDATE

It's hard to make out, but it does say 2.0. The only problem is it hangs on shutdown, just not turning off after "Shutting Down" is shown on-screen.

Tl;dr - It works, but you'll have to do the "Hold power and >|| buttons" trick to get it to turn off.

There's no reason to disregard funman's post, it's still accurate; the firmware version linked on the wiki is the one previous to the latest update from Sandisk, as that is the version supported by mkamsboot, which will not be updated in line with official Sandisk releases.

I have a Clip+ too with the new bootloader and have no problems with shutdowns, have you tried deleting/re-copying Rockbox (you may wish to back up your settings first)?

Ok, I'll try that in a while. I can't do it now due to me having to copy some files to a flash drive (which takes up my last USB port >:() so I'll report back once I've done what you suggested.

UPDATE

Good news, it does shut down!  :D Although it now takes about the same time to shut down as the OF.

Is it my impression, or clipv2 speed w/ new BL and r25977 is much more improved? Database buildings took me a couple of seconds (reboot included), blazing fast! Never seen on any other RB'ed player...
Thanks once more funman,  now developers, make "pitch" modification permanent or commit FS#10906, please! :) or is it too early?

I don't think the bootloader has any effect, but in current revisions the default CPU speed is fixed at 240MHz instead of 24MHz so it might feel faster (and draw more power)

This patch won't apply to as3525v2, we don't know how to program the PLL so we use the only known setting: 240MHz.

I don't even know how inaccurate we are for each audio frequency (12 frequencies from 8kHz up to 96kHz) given this PLL rate.

I also confirm that shutting down takes much longer with the new bootloader on fuzev2

All those who want to use the new OF versions, but are getting errors from the current mkamsboot, because it's out of date, and don't know/can't be bothered to compile from svn: here is a linux binary freshly compiled from SVN.

http://www.datafilehost.com/download-00385efd.html

I've tested it, and it works with 2.03.31 OF on Fuzev2 for example.
EDIT: Here's a patched firmware for Fuzev2: http://www.datafilehost.com/download-dd4104c1.html

I'm also getting the long shutdown times and playback doesn't resume as it used to. Upon restart I get the message "nothing to resume" (though it was playing upon shutdown).

I'm using the new booloader and r25997-100513.

The slow shutdown appears to have been introduced with r25989, not the bootloader.  If you have an older revision, you can switch back to that until this problem gets resolved.

edit: This problem is causing settings not to be saved on shutdown, which will cause playback resume issues that have been noted.
