Nano 2nd gen

can i put the 1st gen nano software on my 2nd gen? if not is there an upcoming version?

No.  

The front page has a comprehensive list of players that Rockbox runs on.  The 2nd generation nano is listed in italics as being a player that Rockbox explicitly does not run on.  If you search you can find many reasons -- since this has been discussed many times in the past -- why this has not happened to date as well as reasons this is not likely to happen in the near future.  Briefly, the 2nd generation nano uses totally different hardware.  Additionally, the firmware is encrypted and no one has figured out how to get any 3rd party code to run on it.
