Charging and using through USB by default?

I'm using a car charger with USB connectivity and would like to know whether it's possible to set as default behaviour the "Use Rockbox while charging" without needing to press the menu button while connecting (I'm on a Gigabeat).

Not currently. unless you modify the Rockbox source code to behave that way and compile your own version of Rockbox (which will require a little C programming skill).

But there was discussion in IRC yesterday of introducing a new setting for USB insertion - the idea (if I've understood correctly) is that the setting would have three values - "Connect, Charge and Ask".  If one of the first two is chosen, then the idea is that a user can hold any button whilst inserting USB to reverse the behaviour.  If Ask is chosen, then a dialog will appear asking the user if he/she wants to either connect or charge.

That sounds like a good idea, although I don't USB charge too much it sounds useful.

It would be a trivial change to the source to invert the sense of the plugin USB with button pressed to charge to become press button to do USB connection.

I'm not in the loop on the IRC discussions (too many other things requiring attention) but I was going to look at the multiple options (including query) at the weekend. Has a proper developer taken this on?

Don't think so, and patches are always welcome
