Future USB-MTP Support?
« on: November 27, 2007, 10:02:52 AM »
Will there be USB-MTP support in future builds? I would like to add files to my Sansa e260 via drag 'n drop inside my favourite software (Rhythmbox), but unfortunately this does not work with ogg-vorbis files, because they are not supported by the OF.

Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for me?
 ;)

Why not ask Rhythmbox to support UMS devices?

Oh, googling it, it does claim support for UMS devices. So what exactly is the problem then?

Yes, my Sansa is detected and shown by Rhythmbox in UMS mode, but when I drag some .ogg files on the player symbol inside Rhythmbox, nothing happens. When I do this with .mp3 files, there will be a directory structure (artist/album/file) created on the device.

This sounds like a bug in Rhythmbox if it's not working properly in UMS mode, then?

I've tried again yesterday: Now it doesn't work at all in UMS mode (the sansa's display changes between connected and disconnected about every 5 seconds and cannot be accessed) and in MTP mode it's still the same.
But this really seems to be a Rhythmbox (or HAL) issue. I will try to find a solution in the Rhythmbox / Ubuntu community and eventually post it here.

Thanks

O.K., I've found out that this really is a known Rhythmbox issue. With Banshee it works perfectly after adding this line to the "Sansa E 270" section of the /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10-usb-music-players.fdi file:

Code: [Select]
application/ogg

(I know that this is a little o.t., but I've promised to post the solution.)

Thanks for the information, but please try to remember to modify your posts if no one has posted since your last post.
