View WPS without pausing (or changing the volume/track)
« on: November 26, 2007, 07:28:36 PM »
I am using the latest build on the Gigabeat F40.

When playing a song, the screen turns off.  Sometimes, I want to see the WPS to view info about the song.  When this happens, I either have to pause the song and resume, or change the volume.  The problem is that there is no button that does nothing.  I just want to activate the LCD and view the WPS, while the track is playing.

Is there any way to accomplish either of these two options:

1.  When the LCD is off, an option to have any button press activate the LCD, and nothing else.  Buttons will only perform their functions if the LCD is on.  I also want this because I hate accidentally hitting the touch pad and changing the track, that blows.

2.  An option to disable the two Volume buttons on the right side of the unit.  Since the Up & Down arrows control the sound, I really have no use for the two Volume buttons on the right.  Is there a way to disable these, so that I can use these to activate the screen?

I'd really appreciate any help.  It's really annoying to carefully hit two buttons just to see the WPS.

Look for the "First Keypress Enables Backlight Only" setting under General Settings -> LCD Settings in the manual. It basically tells Rockbox to ignore the first keypress when the backlight is off. This should let you view the WPS without actually changing anything.

Is there any way to disable to the Up & Down arrows on the touch pad when in the WPS?  I use this player exclusively in my car so I dont ever change the volume.  I'd be fine with only using the volume buttons on the right side of the player.  It would be great if the Up & Down arrows just turned on the LCD.

You'd have to do this yourself in the code, and make yourself your own build.
