Do you know where I could download the firmware file? My firmware is current so I can't download through iTunes, and I really really don't want to restore.

iPodWizard specializes in modifying the Apple firmware.  You might find a solution over there.  This discussion is now very off topic for these forums.  I wish you the best of luck in avoiding restoring your iPod -- though this doesn't seem like that big of an inconvenience considering that your files are intact and can be backed up before restoring.

If there is nothing else having to do with Rockbox then this discussion can be over.
