6g Firmware on the 5.5g - will Rockbox still work?

(1/1)

Hi!

I know you are annoyed of all the questions about the new ipod models. Sorry, I have another one:
On the Internet you can find a method to install the firmware of the ipod classic to the ipod video. (I don't know if I'm allowed to link it here, so I don't.)

I use the aple firmware sometimes, because it hase some advanteges to rockbox and, thx to the database support of rockbox, this is no problem. And so I'd like to have the new firmware on my 5.5g.

But I know that there are some encryption problems with the new firmware, so I'd like to hear your suggestions: Will it be possible to start or install rockbox after the update? If not, is a downgrade possible?

Sorry for a little bit OT, and thank you very much for your work, develepers!

While you might find someone with such a method, it will not work, as the two ipods use different CPUs and therefore cannot run each other's firmwares.

No you can't - you can find a hacked version of the iPod Video's firmware that *looks* like the firmware on the iPod Classic. That's not quite the same thing. And yes - you can make Rockbox work after you've installed it - there are at least two posts in this very forum now from people that have done it.
