Mini 2G fails to dual boot
MrKz:
Hi every one, I've got a couple of tatty but functional Mini's I've been playing with. I've installed rockbox on one which runs fine. The problem seems to be that it will not boot back to the Apple firmware. I've formatted the drive twice (removed and placed in CF reader), gone through the install manually twice just to ensure I'm not making a mistake and everything go's on fine rock box wise but from that point forward the Apple side of things is screwed.
I've read that by dropping to the diagnoistic menu the device will switch to disk mode, this doesn't seem to be the case for my device. Disk mode works fine when in its standard Apple/windows mode when selected from iTunes.
The devices hardware version is 458754. (M9800)
Any ideas? Possible bug? 8-)
Thanks.

Diagnostic mode (accessed by holding Select+Left when booting) is not the same as disk mode (holding Select+Play while booting).
MrKz:
Oops! My bad :D The diskmode access aside, this still doesn't quite explain why it doesn't dual boot, or are the two linked?
GodEater:
They shouldn't be linked no. How are you attempting to do the dual boot ?
MrKz:
On a freshly restored with nothing on it mini, I install Rockbox as per the instructions then "Menu+Select" to reboot. The spash screen comes up and away we go, Rockbox works fine AFAIK, no crashes or odd behavior.
Shutting down with the Long play press, turn on, switch on HOLD, the Apple sign appears, long pause, back light flashes, Apple sign and then nothing, the mini just sits there on the Apple logo and nothing ever happens, I've left it over night to be sure ;D Switching the HOLD button off makes the Mini go straight to Rockbox.
I note on the instructions there is reference to an older bootloader version which requires the holding of MENU, I admit I've not tried that one.
