Gapless playback on Nano
« on: November 24, 2007, 01:24:54 AM »
Is anyone having little gaps between MP3 files supposed to be gapless? I've been having this problem for a little while now, but I was assuming it was something related to those IDE issues on Nano, which doesn't seem to be the case...

To check if it was a MP3 only problem, I took one WAV files I had, created a cue sheet to split it into several parts and encoded these parts separately to Vorbis, FLAC and MP3 (LAME).
Playing these files on foobar2000 was completely gapless, for every format. When I put it on Rockbox, Vorbis and FLAC worked fine, but some MP3 transitions were not gapless (the same ones, every time).
Stopping the playback and restarting it or rebooting the iPod didn't make the results different.

I can upload those two MP3 files I'm having problems with, if this is wanted and allowed. Even though it's from an official release, these two files doesn't have more than 20 seconds together.

I'm running build r15781 right now.

Thanks!

Re-creating test files shouldn't be too difficult. However, the MP3 files you tested with, did they have any tags at all? If they had ID3V1 and/or APE, then that could explain it.

Yes, that could explain it, but Rockbox should strip all tags from the files. It's been doing that for ages.

I'm assuming they had ID3v1, I'm going to take off all tags and try again. Reporting back soon :P

EDIT:

Yes, it seems to be an issue with ID3v1, if I take off all tags or leave just ID3v2 it seems to work fine. Leaving just ID3v1 or ID3v1+ID3v2 creates gaps.

I saw this on bug tracker:
http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/8069

But I don't think it's really related, because it seems these MP3 doesn't have ID3v1 tags already.

Should I open a new bug report?
