Playback on Ipod
« on: November 22, 2007, 07:26:54 AM »
Hi ! Rockboxers....

Posting after a very long time.

I'm using ipod 60 GB photo 4th gen.
I use crossfade a lot with pitch range 105-110 without problems. Helps to play songs faster especially for techno kind-o-stuff. But...... all builds upto sometime around end september were fine. ...... Unfortunately, there's some problem in all the builds thereafter i.e. the entire "november" builds. When you change pitch and crossfade, there's a serious problem, the crossfaded track is interrupted and reboot and/or stops Rockbox. When I revert back to my older build 15-sept it's all fine.

Developers kindly help me out !!!!!!

This is a side effect of the introduction of Metadata On Buffer.

I believe Nico is still working on a resolution for it. Have patience.

I take it back - it appears to be working okay here.

Have you tried resetting your configuration back to default and just enabling crossfade ?

Yeh ! With no pitch shift in place it works ok. But the moment you use pitch shift, even with a setting of 101, the crossfade has a serious problem. I have been trying this with every single build right from Nov 4 onward. But there is no such problem with an older build, probably the oct 15 build.

Hi GodEater,

Yeh ! I just retried the 30th Oct build to be precise. Here's what I did :

I've got a playlist of around 350 files - replaygain-ed using foobar 2000
Using loader.bin 2.5 svn build 1407, boot apple-os, rockbox, diskuse, sleep
After loading the build : All this done in proper steps.....
I set the crossfade to mix, replaygain to track, always
No problems with crossfade, works absolutely fine.
Then I, use my own wps,
Still, No problems with crossfade.
Now, I change pitch, to 103
The crossfade is now punctuated with some ugly gaps, still continues playing......if further continued..... rockbox hangs on the next crossfaded track or comes up with an error screen 000.. something

Please advice.

My older build still works absolutely fine, pitch, wps, everything.

So I'm pretty much sure, no absolutely sure, it's something to do with the recent builds, maybe from 20th oct onwards.

I think this is simply due to crossfade + pitch being too CPU intensive for the iPod with the additional thread MoB introduced.

Oh !!! So I guess we'll have to just wait for a resolution to this problem in later builds.......

Thanks

Or you could simply preprocess your music if you feel the rate it's mastered at isn't the appropriate listening rate... Sound better too, probably...
