start up function
« on: November 19, 2007, 03:47:28 PM »
i couldn't find this in the manual or startup:

i'd like to use a music player for the car using rockbox

1. ideal would be a player that doesn't charge up its battery, but just uses the car power source while driving

2. also, if i turn on the power, i would like the player to automatically resume playing the last playlist without touching any additional buttons

3. also automatic shutdown when i turn off the car

is this possible ?  (especially #2, i think that #1 and #3 are available in rockbox)

also any advice about which player is good (i'm thinking about sansa e280 available this friday at costco for cheap, but not sure about how it will be powered while driving)

thanks for your time

This all can be done with Rockbox.

1.  Connect your player through you car lighter with a car lighter adapter, or otherwise wire a connection for your player directly to your car battery.

2.  Rockbox can resume where you left off--you can set it to resume upon starting up, or you can select "resume playback" at the opening screen, or you simply can press the play button when you start up again (including while the player is booting up).

3.  Rockbox can be set to go into pause when disconnected from the power source, and then it will shut off after a set amount of time if power is not applied (this is the "car adapter" mode).

You may want to pick up the manual to read about it all.  Also, there are various Wiki page discussing various compatible players, which you may wish to check out.
