sansa e250 theme problem
« on: November 19, 2007, 01:40:20 PM »
Hi,

I have been using rocbox for the past 2 days. I read the manuals and some other info on web. I am having problems with the themes. After extracting the zip and copying the proper files to proper folders, and selecting the theme from the menu, everything changes but the now playing screen. It is always this super simple display. Nothing like the picture on the website. Is there anything I am missing here?

You are seeing the default theme because the WPS you're using does not obey the required syntax.

1) It may require a patched build (i.e. the WPS contains unsupported tags).

2) It may contain old tags that do not comply with the current syntax.

See the CustomWPS wiki page for a listing of currently supported tags.

Do I need to edit the WPS file?

Yes, in order to fix it.  Look at the CustomWPS wiki page.

My Acotil themes were some of the ones affected.  I've analyzed my code and figured out what was wrong.  I was missing closing pipes on some lines in the .wps file.

For example, this line: %X|backdrop_blue.bmp|0|0

should be: %X|backdrop_blue.bmp|0|0|

Notice the pipe (vertical line) I've added to the end of the second line which was missing from the first one.

I go into more detail in this topic: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=13810.0

I'll edit all my .wps files and re-upload them.

Does anyone know any Themes the ARE working. I'm having trouble nailing down one with proper syntax and a larger font. This has happened ever since

Make the WPS parser stricter with invalid parameter lists. It will now reject them instead of ignoring them (this includes the second parameter to %m|x|, which is invalid and now causes a failure). Also change the debugging code in order to allow more precise error messages, including the faulty token's index and description. Finally, add a few missing token description and fine-tune the #ifdefs.

I don't have a Sansa, but many of the themes for my Gigabeat still work with no problems.  A couple of them had to be modified to include missing pipes, as ONE_HUMAN said.  I have fixed up a few other themes to use the new left margin syntax as well.  The tag listing in the CustomWPS wiki page should give you the info you need to make the changes.  Hopefully people will all make changes and contribute these back to the wiki.

you could try my crystal theme, it uses Unifont which is a decently-sized font.  i haven't uploaded it to the rockbox site yet, but you can get it here: http://www.box.net/shared/sqh4ys6g5j
if that doesn't work for you, then the problem isn't with themes, because i know that one should work.
