Any reasoning behind this at all?

kylericci:
maybe its not correct for me to say that but thats what it seemed like from the beginning...when i went into disc mode it looked like a screen that was different from a normal ipod screen so i thought that it was running on the rockbox software...i am not an expert as you claim to be so i don't know much..i am an average every day user looking for answers since i would like to use my ipod for more than a paperweight

That is the Apple disk mode.  Rockbox doesn't yet have a USB mode on portalplayer targets and so reboots to disk mode.  It is Apple code and nothing to do with rockbox.

yup now i know that...if you even noticed the title it is asking a question...i had no idea what was going on but i have updated my ipod software before and it worked fine....and then after installing the rockbox software all of a sudden my ipod doesnt want to update...hopefully you can see my logical thinking here

AlexP:
One does not necessarily lead to the other.  I'm not saying rockbox definitely does not cause any problems, but there is no evidence for this, and to say that any problems you had were caused by rockbox because they happened after installing it is specious reasoning.
