my ipod updated its firmware...is that why rockbox doesnt work?
kylericci:
so there may be a few reasons for my ipod not currently working.....but hopefully we will figure it out...the other day my computer asked me if i wanted to update my ipod software...i decided to only download not install the new software...i am gussing the next time i connected my ipod it updated the software automatically...but not sure...anyway today i tried to turn my ipod on and i got a message that said to "restore with itunes"....so i connected it to my computer and chose the restore button...after sitting there sulking at the fact i would have to re download a bunch of music and rebuild countless play lists...i get an error message that says "restore failed"...i tried to do the restore on another computer only to have the same problem....at first my computer showed the ipod as a drive but when you clicked on it there were no folders inside....now there is no drive shown to represent the ipod and when it turns on there is an icon with a frown face and x's in its eyes....that just doesnt look very promising to me....i have restarted the ipod countless times...even in disc mode and tried to uninstall the rockbox software but that didn't work either...the ipod patcher said no ipod found....hopefully someone can help me...my ipod is my life! thanks in advance!
Chronon:
Hopefully the botched "restore" did not screw up the flash on your player. If you can put it into Disk Mode then everything should be fine. You might try formatting the iPod if you can get the OS to recognize it.
What happens when you put it into Disk Mode and attach it to the computer? Does the computer detect it at all?
kylericci:
it doesnt seem to want to go into disc mode when it isnt connected to the computer...when i connect it to the computer and restart it then it will go into disc mode...i can go into the removable drive but it is no longer called ipod...just removeable drive k...about a minute after i connect it itunes opens and says the ipod you have connected appears to be corruped...or something very similar to that....then it says it needs to be restored...that is more than it was doing yesterday so that gets me excited.....i would love any other suggestions...the apple website doesnt help at all...thanks again
i just tried to restore and it downloaded the new software and tried restoring but half way through it stops and says the ipod can not be restored error 1418.....SUCKS! any ideas?
pixelma:
Not reaallly Rockbox-related but since I know how it feels if you think your mp3 player is unusable... here is what google gives on a search for itunes and error 1418 - the hits look quite helpful.
Next time, please try searching yourself before, as you agreed on when joining these forums. ;)
kylericci:
sorry...at first it seemed to be a rockbox problem since it probably wouldn't have happened if i hadn't installed rockbox in the first place...thanks for the tip though
