iPOD stuck in the Recording mode! HELP pls!
« on: November 17, 2007, 12:26:42 PM »
Hello, I got iPod Video 80 GB and last version of Rockbox (today or yesterday build). As I don't have any microphone with my iPod I don't use the "Rcording" feature, which really pisses me off, because when you choose it, iPod goes in Reocrding mode and stays in it forever.
That has happened to me before, but I had had managed to get out of it somehow to the main menu.
Today I accidentally went into Reocrding mode and nothing helps now - I can't get back to the main menu. I tried to reboot in Apple firmware then back to Rockbox, tried many hard-resets (Select + Menu button), tried connecting and disconnecting from PC... Nothing helps.
Please, help me, what should I press to exit this damn recording mode? Besides, this behaviour persists in Rockbox since I have downloaded it for the first time in June - that means nobody hasn't noticed it yet?
Thank you very much in advance, Eugene.

I would assume the same key you use to stop playback / leave other menus. Could it be you have to hold 'play'

Don't have an ipod, and the manual doesn't mention it.

Are you saying that whenever you start rockbox (after rebooting with MENU+SELECT), Rockbox goes back into the Recording Screen?  If that's that case, then you've set the "startup screen" to be the Recording screen.

But to exit the recording screen, just do a long-press on PLAY/PAUSE (as Petur suggested) - it's the same mapping as "STOP".  I've just tested it on my ipod, and it works fine.  You can then go into the Settings -> General Settings -> System -> Start Screen menu and change the startup screen to something else.

Hi,
I have an ipod Video and it seems I'm having a similar issue to the original poster. I navigate to "Recording" and I can see the peak meter moving slightly until I press any button and then it stops moving and I'm unable to leave that screen. What's worse is that I have my settings so that it goes back to the previous screen when it starts up so I can't ever escape this problem.

I have tried the long play/pause method and it doesn't work. The only thing I seem to be able to do is reboot Rockbox with menu/select.

Has anybody come across this before and, if so, how did you solve it?

For what it's worth I installed Rockbox yesterday (22nd Feb 2008) using a daily build and I'm using one of the JBlackGlass themes. I have the 30GB version.

Thanks,
Dave.

Delete the config.cfg file, or edit it to remove the line that tells Rockbox to start in the previous screen.  Alternately, you could clear your settings by turning on the hold switch during the boot process after Rockbox starts loading (you need to time this right, because if you do it too early, you'll boot the original firmware).

I just Installed RockBox last night and had flipped that setting when tinkering with it, but didn't know what I did, so I was locked into the Recording screen after start up too.

Awesome, thanx!
