e250 Freezing - Locking up
(1/1)
Hef:
My First Post...Be nice.
I put the Current Build on my new e250 last night. All was well. Starting searching and loading different Themes, found one that I liked, and now the player freezes or locks up. Only pulling the battery out will unfreeze it. Rebooting allows it to work for a while, but it froze again.
First off, is there a different way to reset the player without popping out the battery?
*EDIT* ok, just read through page 6 here, and found a thread that says if you hold the power button long enough, it will always reboot. I'll try that later tonight. ********
Could a bad theme be causing this? Is there a way to individually remove themes, I know there are a lot of files involved, I want to know they are all gone.
I'm not too picky about the theme, I really just want the information in an easy on the eyes format. The standard Rockbox is a little too Unix for me. Any good recommendations on a reliable one?
And then ultimately, do I need to uninstall and start over. Does unistalling do a full clean of all realated files?
Thanks
Hef

It could be one of the possible problems listed on the AlbumArt wiki page. I was getting errors because some of my album art was larger than my screen.

You could just erase your whole .rockbox folder and reinstall it, backing up your config.cfg file and whatever else you want to hold onto first. Or you could just erase the files associated with the theme (there aren't that many, really): in the "themes" folder: ThemeName.wps, in the "wps" folder: ThemeName.wps and the ThemeName folder.

Try the other ones included in the current build... iCatcher's a little more modern... And those ones are pretty much guaranteed not to crash out on you...

Thank you very much for the response.
Appreciate it.

my e280 used to freeze up a lot, and it kept getting worse and worse until it was unuseable. After reading a bunch of other posts I saw some discussion about corrupted data in the memory causing this. Actually, they said it caused a "Kernel Panic."
Q: How do you case the Kernel to Panic?
A: Burn the Chicken!
Anyway, I reformatted the memory using the "sansa.fmt" method, (READ, READ, READ THE WIKI, and use the experience of those that have gone before you) then reloaded everything.
Fixed it, no doubt. Now all is good. Maybe you try this? It is easy, easy. But study up first!

I uninstalled, then reinstalled Rockbox. All is well for now.
