Problems removing rockbox
« on: November 16, 2007, 09:31:36 AM »
I am having some issues with my installation of rockbox and would like to remove it. I am pretty much an idiot when it comes to cpmuters so naturally I am having some issues with it. I tried to start my e250r with the original firmware by holding the left key and turning the player on but I get a big long message and at the bottom it says file not found. So I decided I just want to get rid of rockbox and return to the original firmware but can't figure out how to get rid of rockbox.

You can use Rockbox Utility to remove Rockbox and the bootloader from your e250R. Just launch it and select the Uninstall option.

I just downloaded the program but now I can't do anything because the player is not showing up on my computer when plugged in. ANy idead on what might be causing this? I get the usual noise when plugging a device in but nothing shows up when going to mycomputer or anywhere else and I get an error when trying to run the utility.

You need to boot into the original firmware to get your computer to recognise the sansa.

Hold "left" as you turn the thing on to boot into the original firmware.

I try that and it gives me a long message that says file not found at the end of it, then it shuts down. It will only go into rockbox. What can I do to fix this?

I am trying to uninstall too.  I held down the left key and then "on" button...booted up with Rhapsody and plugged in to the USB.  I can see the drive in "My Computer" and all the files and songs on the Sansa..even able to copy and paste songs on there and listen to them.  But when I use the Rockbox Utility, it says "Sansa" not found when I try to run "remove rockbox bootloader".  Interestingly enough, if I click the "Remove Rockbox" it will delete the files on the Sansa...so why would it work with the one and not the other.

Can someone post the step by step procedure on how to reverse engineer installation?  I installed Rockbox manually and had no problems...I can't work backwards though (guess I"m not smart enough).

If I want to uninstall manually...is there a way to rename files or add individual files to the system folder on the Sansa...and then I can delete the .rockbox folder?  Or would this totally screw things up?

I wish I could even get that far. Mine will not boot up into Rhapsody. Like I said with mine when I try that I get asn error message and the player just shuts down. Is there anyway to contact someone from rockbox directly? Rockbox has basically now turned my e250r into a paper weight as the computer will not recognize the player so I can ad files to it. I am wondering if anyof them could give me more help in fixing the problem.

It sounds like you started installing rockbox, but did not complete the process and so do not have dual booting setup.  I think this page will help:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Unbrick

I suggest reading that carefully before doing anything.  Its not too hard to fix your install, but if you make another mistake here, it will become much, much harder to fix.

If you can boot to Rhapsody, you can just manually upgrade the sansa firmware, it will remove the bootloader for you.

Thank-you so much for your help.  I downloaded the latest Sansa update and installed.  I am wondering if I need to change any of the files in the Sansa System folder back to what they were, such as OF .mi4?  Is this going to affect future performance in the player?  Or did the Sansa update take care of everything?

no, I think the only thing you need to do is just to put the .mi file in the root directory.
I remember first reboot you need to press left button to let it boot into Sansa first. they it will be taken care of.

Which mi file would that be?  If it is the original one that was in there...the one from Sansa...is that something I could download from their site somewhere?
