Help with 30 Gig Ipod video
« on: November 15, 2007, 11:43:53 PM »
Hi,  I downloaded and loaded Rockbox onto my Ipod video and now my ipod is not recognized by either my mac or itunes.  I've restarted the computer but that did not help.
My ipod is displaying a text screen giving me the key combinations for rebooting the ipod, which I've now tried several times hasn't helped.  Rebooting the ipod brings up the exact same screen.   I can't turn my ipod off, nor can I get it to do anything other than remain on the text screen.
I've tried to uninstall Rockbox, however since the computer no longer recognizes my ipod I can't get to it to uninstall.  Bottom line is that I now have a completely non-functional ipod.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than throwing it through the window????

It seems you might have skipped a step in the install process. Try holding down the "disk mode" key combination (which should be displayed on the screen your iPod is stuck at).

This means you're not holding down the combination of keys for disk mode fast enough after the reboot. You need to switch from Menu+Select to Play+Select as *soon* as the screen goes black, and keep it held until you see your ipod screen saying "Disk Mode"

Thanks for the tips!  I wasn't pushing the key combination quickly enough after rebooting initially.  Tried again and was able to get to disk mode.  In disk mode my ipod hung up on the 'ok to disconnect' message and wouldn't move from that screen.

I tried uninstalling via the rockbox utility but that didn't work, so ultimately i did a full restore through itunes so my ipod is fully functional again.

Any thoughts on where I might have gone wrong with the install?  I really like what rockbox has to offer and would like to try again but am a bit hesitant.

Thanks!! :)

Sounds like you patched the bootloader, but forgot to download and extract the software.

Follow this link and download the proper build for your iPod video. Then repatch the bootloader and try again.

Or just install with Rockbox Utility, since you have it already.
