E250 refreshing database
« on: November 15, 2007, 11:36:31 AM »
Everytime I connect to USB, my Sansa says it's "refreshing database," then goes to main menu and so it's not recognized by the computer - any advice?

Ok, Here we go again.  Turn on the Sansa while holding down the left button it will then default to the original Sansa firmware. (when you see this you can release the left button) Then drag and drop as you would to any other drive. Rockbox, when it stars up the next time, will catalog the new cuts.

iremonger, do you have a microSD card plugged when you connect to usb while the player is turned off?

I noticed on my Sansa c200 that in this case the original firmware will start but not establish a data connection to the computer - and I believe it could behave similarly on the e200.

So playing around a bit with it, I found two possibilities: either remove the microSD on USB plug (you can insert it right after again and use the Sansa to write to the card as well if it's not a "SDHC" card) or do as interframe said, boot the original firmware manually and then connect to USB.

Pixelma,

I have an e200 series with a 2 gig microsd card in it. No need to remove it when connecting to the PC. My PC running XP recognizes it as 2 drives. It must be specific to your Sansa series.

I meant that if the card is inserted it hinders the original firmware to establish the data connection when I boot by plugging in the USB cable and the player was off before; it only charges then. There is no problem when the original firmware is already running (when booted with holding left before) and then plug the USB - and interframe: if I remember correctly you said in another thread that connection from an off-state wouldn't work for you, too...

If I am following you, yes that would be correct. Plugging in the USB cable from the off state will turn on the e200 and let it charge. However the unit was not recognized by my PC.

Same behaviour here on e260. I just unplug and plug it, without turning off, again and it works.
Another workaround is to let the original firmware boot once after changing files on the player, so it doesnt do a refresh on plug.
Dont have an SD card.

Here's how it works on my e280

1)  Plug in the usb and the player will boot into the original Sansa firmware and begin the L O N G process of refreshing the data base.  Wait for this to finish.  During the refresh, the player will not be recognized by windows.

2)  After the refresh is finished, simply unplug and re-plug the usb.  The player will then be seen.

3)  Do what you need to do.
