Album Art
« on: November 15, 2007, 10:32:20 AM »
Gday!

I just got an early christmas present from my wife - a Sansa e280 - have just installed Rockbox - lovely! Love it - well done!

However...
I have been trying to work out how to get the album art to display - have fooled around with themes (downloaded and installed , and tried different sized files, all called cover.bmp , but just can not get the album art to display.

Please let me know how this is done!

Thanks again,

Cheers,

IsaacBlack

The downloadable Album Art themes generally use a custom build, so will not work with the Current Build. I haven't seen any 'official' album art themes posted to the Wiki yet (although I haven't looked on rockbox-themes.org), so you will probably have to make your own.

Follow this first to ensure you can make a very simple WPS of your own:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SimpleGuideToWPSMaking
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CustomWPS

Then add Album Art as per this:

[edited, to delete the almost identical information Bascule was posting as I was preparing to post.]

In the end, it's not a matter of simply turning the feature "on" in a setting.  Rather, you have to add the command for album art to the commands used to create the WPS (While Playing Screen, or as I refer to it, the What's Playing Screen), specifying where and how the album art should appear, including in conjunction with the other information in the WPS.  It truly is not hard to do, and many of us enjoy the process.  (Sorry if you already knew all of this--it was unclear to me from your post.)

If the themes you've downloaded include album art, it could be that the commands are out-of-date, given recent code advances.

BlackGlassAA on the ipodVideo has been changed to work with the official build now.

Hi GodEater - thanks for taking the time to reply to my question.

Yes, I have read it, but I am new to Rockbox, and dont want to get into coding - just would like to display the albumart...

Is there a rockbox build and theme that you could suggest that I use to do this on my Sansa e280?

Thanks again!

None of the Sansa themes I can see that display Album Art have been changed to work with the official build of Rockbox - so you'll have to pick a build which the theme specifies.

I would give it some time--hopefully, people now will be modding/creating WPS's to take advantage of the album art advances.

as luck would have it, i am actually working on a theme that implements the new album art support.  i don't know how you'll feel about the theme as its based on a website, but the website its based on is dedicated to the sansa e200.  here's the preview screen of my Lodist theme if you're interested:

Actually I dont think this works anymore as the %s|leftmargin| has been changed to %m|leftmargin| or %s%m|leftmargin|

Wow the %s|left margin| was removed after only two days?

So what works %m|left margin|%s   or   %s%m|left margin|
to scroll a line on the right hand side of an album art bitmap?

Also can I have some lines scroll on the right hand side of a bitmap
and others scroll the whole width of the screen?  Seemed that with the
%s|margin| construct this was possible, but unless you can have multiple
%m tags (can you?) so you can change the left margin as you go down the screen
that wouldn't be possible.

The %m|margin| tag and the %s tag are now completely independent. This allows having a margin on a non-scrolling line. I'm sorry for the quick change, but it is clearly better that way.

scharkalvin: the margin setting is a per-line setting, so you can do what you where asking. Making %s and %m separate gives more flexibility, not less.
