nano troubles

lice:
so i installed rockbox on my video about 2weeks ago and was very happy with it. a freind of mine saw it and wanted it on his nano. after i installed todays build and bootloader, i restarted the ipod and initialized the database and it sat for about 10 secs and told me to reboot. this looked odd because it told me it had 3500 songs, and he only had about 40 songs.so i rebooted and went back into the database and it wanted me to initialize again. so i connected it to my computer and noticed that in the .rockbox folder there are about 7 strange files that just popped up. they've all got odd names and file extensions, some not even using standard characters because the little square box is mixed in. any help?

edit. these files cannot be deleted by either windows or stompsoft file shredder. weird

Chronon:
It sounds like file system corruption.  Try running chkdsk /f on the nano to see if it can repair any errors.

lice:
ran chkdsk and downloaded fresh boot installer, all is fine. thanks!
also downloaded utility v1.0.3 don't know if it made a difference but it doesn't lock up as much

edit: ok typed too soon. all music files are damaged and have terrible quality. i'll go out on a limb and say he has disk problems. it makes me wonder though, in the original iPod part of the system the files are fine. bad codecs? ipod wizard didnt work for any nanos i tried, maybe i just have bad luck with nanos.

GodEater:
When copying files to a device you connect over USB, when you're done copying, you NEED to make sure you choose to "Safely eject hardware" before you remove the USB cable, or you'll get this sort of issue. iTunes kind of does this for with its nice big "Eject" button - but when you're not using iTunes, you need to be sure to use the icon way down in the system tray.

probedb:
I have similar issues. When I first install rockbox (before an initial reboot) everything is fine, USB speed is great, I disconnect and try the track I copied across and it sounds fine.

However after a proper reboot when I plug it back in, any file operations take an absolute age and the files are corrupted and full of glitches.

How can this be when as a normal iPod it's fine?
