yeah, that is what i had thought like.  if the original firmware did somehow not decide to boot after doing this, i would probably still be able to get into disk mode and just restore i guess, right??

You can put a completely blank formatted disk in an iPod, and still be able to recover it. So yes, just a little corrupt firmware is no problem.

Well, you're apparently referring to another thread from over a week ago.  I was referring to GodEater's post immediately above yours, where he wrote, "'There was another post in this very forum about a week ago with someone who had managed to use that iPodWizard hack and install Rockbox at the same time."

Also you were quoting an early reply I made in that thread - you will see later that the poster in question chose to go ahead anyway, and made it work. So now I *have* heard of someone doing it successfully - which is why I directed you there in the first place. Sheesh!
